About Dr. Delower Hossain
Dr. Delower Hossain is a distinguished academic and researcher specializing in veterinary medicine, public health, and the One Health approach. Since December 2018, he has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and Public Health at the Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Dr. Hossain earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) in 2016, where he excelled academically and completed a comprehensive one-year internship and externship program in India. In 2019, he obtained his Master of Science (MS) in Medicine from CVASU’s Department of Medicine and Surgery. His outstanding clinical skills earned him the Best Clinical Award at the S.A. Quaderi Teaching Hospital of CVASU in 2015.
From January 2017 to November 2018, Dr. Hossain served as a Research Assistant on an international project funded by the Swedish Research Council. He collaborated with researchers from Bangladesh, Sweden, and the Netherlands to develop an Udder Health Control Program for dairy cows in Bangladesh. His significant contributions to improving animal health and welfare include his active role with Udder Health Bangladesh (UHB), where he trains dairy farmers on udder health and best practices in dairy farming.
In 2019, Dr. Hossain was honored as the first Bangladeshi recipient of the prestigious Gustav Rosenberger Memorial Award (GRMF), acknowledging his exceptional contributions to dairy research and veterinary science in Bangladesh. Furthermore, he has played a vital role in policy development as part of the team that created the Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) for Food Animals, introduced by the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN).
Dr. Hossain is a lifelong member of One Health Bangladesh and Udder Health Bangladesh, and he is also a global outreach member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and Microbiology Society, UK. His research interests encompass infectious diseases, microbiome studies, antimicrobial resistance, zoonoses, public health, One Health, animal health, udder health and mastitis, herd health, and dairy science. He has an impressive academic record with over 20 research articles published in prestigious international journals, four chapters, and three books published by recognized international publishers.
Currently, Dr. Hossain is pursuing a Ph.D. in Microbiome and Antimicrobial Resistance at the University of Milan, Italy. He adopts a One Health approach to enhance knowledge at the intersection of animal, human, and environmental health. His unwavering commitment to animal health, public health, and global One Health initiatives positions him as a prominent figure in veterinary medicine and public health. He also engaged with Clinical Skill Labs of the University of Milan, where he is responsible for teaching and demonstrating different clinical skills to veterinary students.
